THE HAYMARKET HUB Nexus, the Passenger Transport Executive for Tyne and Wear who own and operate the Tyne and Wear rapid transport system (The Metro) have established a partnership with Closegate Developments Limited, acting on behalf of 42nd Street Realty Limited for the redevelopment of the Haymarket Metro Station to create a new 21st Century landmark building 'The Hub'. The Haymarket Hub will rejunvenate this historical northern gateway into Newcastle City Centre. The exciting design of the 'Metro Station' space will give rise to new leisure, commercial and retail opportunities and re-emphasise this area's importance to the city centre of Newcastle. Central to the area's transport network, the links with the Universities, its convenient retail and commercial location and the City's cultural and political axis, the Haymarket 'Metro Station'is truly a 'Hub'. The Hub is to provide a logical defined boundary to the northern aspect of the City, something which currently, does not exist due to the present structure's single purpose function and its low rise design.
